Iloilo City's Charter Day on August 25; it's a Holiday in the City of Iloilo

The Celebration of Iloilo's Charter Day

This coming August 25, 2011, Iloilo celebrates its 74th-year Commemoration of being declared as a Chartered City. This day August 25 has now been declared as special non-working day in the city of Iloilo, by virtue of Proclamation No. 203 which was signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr. by authority of President Aquino on July 12, 2011. The proclamation also states “It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Iloilo be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies”



Ever since, he got elected, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has made a focus onto Iloilo's Charter Day, that it be considered also one of the most important holidays of Iloilo City, saying: "The celebration of the Charter Day has been set to create awareness of the history and development of Iloilo as a city, to arouse community sense of pride of place, and to showcase the celebration as a link to culture and heritage"

The formal opening program of the 74th Charter Day celebration will be on July 20 at the SM City Activity Center, with various activities and events leading to its highlight on August 25.

On the initial schedule of activities from the City Tourism Office, this year’s Charter Day on August 25 will have a grand civic parade; Mayor’s Ball; search for outstanding Ilonggos and outstanding city government employees; medical and dental mission; and job fair, among others.
