The 2014 Double Dragon Boat Race

This August, Iloilo is set to be the venue of a thrilling new event that will surely spotlight Iloilo once more. The 2014 DoubleDragon Boat Race is set to take off this August 23, at the Iloilo River Wharf in Iloilo City. This event is aimed to raise public awareness for the conservation of the Iloilo River, and will also help promote the sport of dragonboat racing. [hit the jump to continue]

The Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richie Garcia said that the competition with the theme: Unity, Legacy and Advocacy, he says:
“This sport needs all the assistance they can get from all private entities like DoubleDragon. The PSC is very grateful for the enormous support to our athletes and sports development. These athletes have brought a lot of admiration to our country. Their skills and commitment is truly commendable. They deserve all these,”


A total of 15 teams from all over the country, which include members of the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Federation and Philippine Dragonboat Federation, will compete in the one-day tournament. The other competing teams are Boracay Sea Dragons Rowing Team, Manila Wave Paddlers Club, San Beda Dragon Boat Rowing Team, Bohol Paddlers Association, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University Dragon Boat Team, St. Therese MTC-Colleges Dragon Boat Team, Philippine Marine Dragon Boat Team, Philippine Navy Dragon Boat Team and last year’s champion Boracay All Stars Dragon Boat Team.

“This event is envisioned to promote Iloilo City as a tourism destination which will further stimulate local economic growth not only in Iloilo but also the whole of Panay Island,” said Injap Sia, chairman and CEO of DoubleDragon Properties Corp.

The champion in the men’s, women’s and mixed event will receive a cash prize of P50,000 each.
